Course Objectives

Programme Structure

The programme is divided into progressive stages:

Stage 1: Foundational Phonics (Beginner Level)

Focus: Letter Sounds & Early Blending

Learners will:

• Recognise uppercase and lowercase letters

• Learn the primary sound for each letter

• Blend CVC words (cat, dog, sun)

• Identify beginning, middle, and ending sounds

• Practice simple spelling through sound segmentation

Outcome: Learners read and spell simple three-letter words independently.

Stage 2: Expanding Word Reading

Focus: Blends, Digraphs & Word Families

Learners will:

• Read consonant blends (bl, tr, st, gr)

• Learn digraphs (sh, ch, th, ee, ai, oa)

• Build fluency in common word families

• Develop a bank of high-frequency sight words

• Write simple sentences

Outcome: Learners read short sentences with improved confidence and accuracy.

Stage 3: Developing Fluency (Early Intermediate)

Focus: Complex Sounds & Longer Words

Learners will:

• Learn long vowel patterns

• Understand silent e rules

• Decode two- and three-syllable words

• Improve reading speed and expression

• Expand vocabulary

• Write short paragraphs

Outcome: Learners transition from “learning to read” to “reading for meaning.”

Stage 4: Reading Comprehension & Confidence (Intermediate)

Focus: Independent Reading

Learners will:

• Read short stories and passages

• Apply phonics rules automatically

• Improve spelling accuracy

• Answer comprehension questions

• Retell stories

• Build expressive oral reading skills

Outcome: Learners read independently with comprehension and fluency.
